Hi! My name is V Fixmer-Oraiz
I was elected in 2022 to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors and I am proud to serve as the first transgender, Queer, Filipinx-American county supervisor in Iowa. I have lived in Johnson County for over a decade and in that time graduated with a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa and started my own environmental and community planning firm, Astig Planning.
In my first term as a Supervisor, I led the creation of the Johnson County Transgender Advisory Committee, worked with the Johnson County Attorney’s Office to update the county’s Human Rights Ordinance, fought alongside manufactured home residents to stand up to out-of-state park owners, and helped to fund local non-profits and critical social services. I continue to advocate tirelessly for the rights of immigrants, workers, women, LGBTQ+ people, communities of color, youth, survivors of sexual assault, and all residents of Johnson County. I serve on several boards and committees that impact residents’ lives, such as the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee, the East Central Iowa Workforce Development Board, and the Economic Development Committee.
I live in Iowa City with my wife of 21 years and two young children. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and biking around the county, and stealing away to get lost in a good book!
